This past Friday, May 9, was my birthday—a day I always look forward to. As part of my annual birthday reflection, I took some quiet time to pause, journal, and think about the year behind me.

Birthdays provide a rare opportunity to slow down and take stock of where we are, what we've accomplished, and where we hope to go next.

A Birthday Reflection on Ambition and Self-Compassion

One thing I've noticed about myself is that I'm always reaching for the next goal. Whether professionally, personally, or creatively, I set high standards and work hard to achieve them.

That drive has helped me build a meaningful career and life, but this year I also realized the importance of offering myself more grace along the way.

One of the biggest lessons from this birthday reflection is that ambition and self-compassion can coexist. We can continue striving toward meaningful goals while also giving ourselves permission to appreciate how far we've already come.

My goal isn't to slow down. It's to enjoy the process as much as the outcome.

I invite you to bring more self-compassion into your own life as well. You won't accomplish less—you may simply find yourself breathing a little easier.

Finding Purpose in Everyday Moments

I feel most alive when I'm writing, presenting, engaging in meaningful conversations, spending time in nature, and being fully present with the people I love.

Those are the moments that keep me grounded and remind me why I do what I do.

This birthday reflection reminded me that success is not only about achievement—it's also about finding joy, purpose, and presence throughout the journey.

Here's to another year of growth, meaningful work, deep connections, and appreciating the moments that matter most.
